Congrats to all beginners for a great job at Spring Concert. Thanks to all parents, friends, family who attended. Summer Lesson list of teachers and phone numbers will hopefully be available on Monday 5/12. Parents, please encourage your students to stick with music!

New tests for 4th quarter have been assigned. All 6th grade band members have a test list taped inside their books. As tests are passed they will be marked on the list. By 5/9 the minimum is 8 tests passed. The following students are below minimum as of 5/7

Flute Class .... CK,YL,AM*,JN, MR

Percussion .... ALL

Sax Class (8th period woodwinds) ... WB, SC*, WE, BG, JK*,MS, IT,

Low Brass ... AS*,MS*

Clarinet Class (9th period woodwinds) ... SA, JB, MD, AE*, AL*,LM, EN*, KS, ZS*, ST

Trumpet/Horn class ... DD, ND, JF*, LG, KM, LM, RS, KS

Students marked with an (*) also have other grade issues, such as absenses, effort in class, and/or coming to class without instrument 2 or more times.

Hints for success in band

Make sure students have a REGULAR time and place to practice, are bringing instruments and music books home and are doing their minimum 15 minutes practicing each day
Make sure students are checking schedules and getting instruments and books to school on the right days

Reminder to clarinets and saxophone players. You must have at least TWO good reeds with you at school at all times. Clarinets need strength #2 and saxophones need #2 1/2. Reeds are available from Mr W (but NOT during class time). $1.50 for clarinet reeds, $2.50 for alto sax, and $3.00 for tenor sax.

Class Effort grade marks are: NI= Instrument NOT brought to class, NB= music book NOT brought to class, NR sax or clarinet player without a good reed in class, IL or BL= instrument or music book left at school. G= gum W= student warned for not following band rules (T= tardy to class. A = absent. Although attendance is not usually counted in the grade, excessive absences and/or tardies are never a good sign) Students start with an "A" and are allowed 2 "forgots". With the third time, the grade drops one step for each "forgot", so 3=B,4=C,5=D,6=F.

Class Effort is 50% of the grade and tests are 50%. Tests are listed below for each class. All tests must be finished for an "A" test grade.
