2009-2010 Marching Awards

SMS Warrior Band Drum Majors 2009-2010 

GARCES Results (9 schools in 3 divisions of 3 schools each)(Division 3A= Stonecreek, Standard, Beardsley) ColorGuard SWEEPSTAKES (12 point margin), Drum Major (Carissa S) SWEEPSTAKES (score OF 98), Percussion 1st in division (but only 4th highest overall), BAND (entire unit) 1st in division (2nd highest overall)..... VETERANS DAY PARADE we received the "Curran" award for best JH/MS band in the parade!!!! ...... STOCKDALE (8 bands competing, 2 divisions of 4 schools...see note below)(division AA Olivier, Stonecreek, Bearsdley, Standard) ColorGuard keeps their 2 year unbeaten streak alive with the First place HIGHEST SCORE at Stockdale.(a certain friendly competitor was not in the top 3 and did not receive any award for CG), Drum Major (Lizzy F) First place HIGHEST SCORE (11 point margin...no other school could substitute DMs and still dominate!), percussion 3rd place overall, BAND (entire unit) 1st place in division (2nd highest overall), BUT>>>> our music score was highest so we won MUSIC SWEEPSTAKES.....SMS was the ONLY school to win or place top three in EVERY category at Stockdale!!! .... CENTENNIAL (4 schools competing in just one division = RioBravoGreeley, Fruitvale, Richland, Standard) Revenge of the Warriors, part 2!!  CLEAN SWEEP!!!! Color Guard SWEEPSTAKES (keeps their 2 year unbeaten streak alive), Percussion SWEEPSTAKES ( perc started the year slow but fought back to finish strong...2 out of 3 school here today had outscored us at other comps.. Richland had done it twice, but got a surprise today!) BAND (entire unit) SWEEPSTAKES, and MUSIC SWEEPSTAKES!!!!

Stockdale NOTES: Stockdale does not award SWEEPSTAKES in perc, colorguard or drum major. BUT, since awards are based on OVERALL scores of all band competing, not by division, FIRST PLACE in any category is the same thing as sweeps....they save money on big trophies that way!!!!!  :)

Centennial NOTES: Another competition saving money on trophies... NO DM trophy (BUMMER!).... a cold, grey day, with more members out sick than any other day, and several more who came sick and hung in there (thanks Juliana and Katie)... good thing we had high music scores, because marching was not so good, but combined together high enough to win!

SMS Marching Milestones 2009

• SMS wins first 3-PEAT and DOUBLE 3-PEAT in Warrior Band history, winning both SWEEPSTAKES and MUSIC SWEEpSTAKES at Centennial for the third year in  a row!
• SMS has now won at least one music sweeepstakes each year for the last 4 years in a row. This includes 3 years in a row at Centennial 2007-08-09, , 2 years in a row at Stockdale 2008-09, and 2 years in a row at Garces 2006&07...2009 is first time we have won music sweeps 2 years in a row at 2 different comps in the same year! 
• Over the last 4 years, SMS Color Guard has the winningest record in Kern County in parade competions, going undefeated in  2006 and both 2008-2009
• Over the last 3 years, we have won Sweepstakes at every marching competition in Bakersfield at least once. Garces 2007, West 2007, Stockdale 2008, and Centennial 2007 and 2008 and 2009.
• Over the last 3 years, the Warrior marching band has 3 CLEAN SWEEPS (winning highest award in every category) and 2 NEAR SWEEPS (winning in all but one category). 

SMS marching milestones set in 2008....

o SMS has now won at least one music sweeepstakes each year for the last 3 years in a row. This includes 2 years in a row at Garces 2006&07, 2 years in a row at Centennial 2007&08, and one at Stockdale 2008

o Over the last 2 years, we have won Sweepstakes at every marching competition in Bakersfield at least once. Garces 2007, West 2007, Stockdale 2008, and Centennial 2007 and 2008. This is also the first time SMS has won Sweepstakes two years in a row at the same competition.

o Over the last two years, the Warrior marching band has 2 CLEAN SWEEPS (winning highest award in every category) and 2 NEAR SWEEPS (winning in all but one category). No other school even comes close to that achievement.

o Over the last 3 years, SMS Color Guard has the winningest record in Kern County in parade competions, going undefeated in both 2006 and 2008.

2008-09 MARCHING AWARDS

GARCES Results: 9 schools competing in 3 divisions of 3 schools each. (All awards are for our division of Richland, Beardsley and Standard). Color Guard 1st place plus highest of all divisions. Drum Major 1st place plus highest of all divisions. Percussion 3rd place plus tied for 3rd among all divisions. Overall unit 1st place ........ STOCKDALE results (7 schools competing) Color Guard 1st place overall, Percussion 1st place overall, DM second place overall, Band SWEEPSTAKES and MUSIC SWEEPSTAKES ....... CENTENNIAL results (6 schools competeing) Revenge of the Warriors! CLEAN SWEEP !!! Sweepstakes Color Guard, Sweepstakes Drum Major, High Music Sweepstakes, SMS WMB&CG Sweepstakes (No percussion scores or trophies were given,)

MARCHING AWARDS 2007-2008

GARCES results (8 schools competing overall, SMS vs Beardsley and Richland in division 3A):CLEAN SWEEP! DM 1st place in division (highest overall), PERCUSSION 1st place in division (highest overall), COLORGUARD 1st place in division (highest overall), BAND- HIGH MUSIC SWEEPSTAKES (2nd year in a row for 1st time ever!), SMS WMB&CG - SWEEPSTAKES AWARD for highest overall score!! ..... WEST HS (5 schools competing) SMS makes history by winning SWEEPSTAKES for 2nd weeek in a row! (no high music award was given) SMS placed 2nd or 3rd in perc, DM, and CG but WHS did not give trophies for those awards .... Veteran's Day Parade: best MS/JH CG (bands were not judged)..... CENTENNIAL: (6 schools competing) 1st place CG (2 tenths of a point from Sweepstakes), DM SWEEPSTAKES, PERCUSSION SWEEPSTAKES, MUSIC SWEEPSTAKES, and OVERALL SWEEPSTAKES!!!! First time ever that we won SWEEPSTAKES at ALL of our competitions!!!!!

MARCHING AWARDS 2006-2007

GARCES results (8 schools competing overall, 3 schools in our division 2a): DM 1st place overall, PERCUSSION 1st place in division (2nd highest overall), COLORGUARD 1st place in division (highest overall score), BAND (and entire unit) 1st place in division plus BAND HIGH MUSIC SWEEPSTAKES ........ STOCKDALE results: CG 1st place by a landslide 8 points, PERC 2nd place by just 1/10th of a point, DM 2nd place, BAND 1st place ......... CENTENNIAL results: CG completes a season sweep by winning SWEEPSTAKES, PERC 2nd place, DM 1st place, band 2nd place.
